Ievgeniia is a painter born in Kyiv, Ukraine and working and living in Tkaronto/Toronto. Studying at OCAD University in the Drawing and Painting program, she mainly works with oil paint and textiles. Cherednikova has participated in group exhibitions exploring mental health and Indigenous worldviews. Her recent work include a fundraiser for mental health, volunteering for a Peruvian artist Olinda Silvano for an Indigenous mural and the Iranian “Women Life Freedom” exhibition. Cherednikova is planning to delve deeper into her Ukrainian heritage, mysticism and landscape and further explore the materials and various media of painting.
artist statement
I am following what I found meaningful and joyful in progress of intuitive making in response to my surroundings, largely nature. I encompass and explore spirituality and experiences within and how they merge together. This way, I create my own realities where I experiment on and put the ideas of happiness, divinity, and love at the forefront of my creative inquiry. By paying closer attention to colour and texture, I express the joyful spaces that I inhabit. My work includes photoshop as well as with beeswax encaustic, oil paint, and collage, installation, textiles, soft pastels. My favourite medium currently is textiles due to its three-dimensionality and how the emotions I can portray can take almost tactile form. I continue to research various techniques and properties of the medium while continuing to experiment by adding and subtracting in its compositions.
